Abstract:
Naval Group uses different cold plastic deformation processes to build submarine shell elements. Because of the elements size and the small number of sets, these building processes are little automated, multi passes and rely on worker expertise for defining the manufacturing tools and processes. Moreover, the mechanical state of the sheet is modified by these processes because of the residual stress and the hardening of the material. With this project, Naval Group wants specifically to deepen the knowledge of the cold multi-pass drawing process of steel thick sheet in order to :

– to clarify the impact of the process on the sheet (plastic strain, residual stress, mechanical behaviour after process)
– to create a tool to help the development of tools geometry and manufacturing processes.
