Mekki Gaddacha Guizani, finalist for the SAMPE Europe Award
Mekki Gaddacha Guizani, finalist for the SAMPE Europe Award – Doctoral Student Category
Mekki Gaddacha Guizani had the honor of competing in the 40th Students Seminar 2025, organized as part of the SAMPE Europe Conference in Amsterdam.
This highly selective event (following a national pre-selection competition) brings together young European researchers in materials science and processes every year to share their advances and exchange ideas with an international jury of experts. Sixteen students competed in the 2025 edition.
Mekki presented his research on the characterization and mesoscopic modeling of 3D crack propagation at the CMO/CMO interface of a 3D woven composite. Mekki highlighted three key points from his doctoral research:
- An experimental approach to measuring the energy restitution rate, an essential parameter for quantifying the energy required for crack propagation.
- An innovative program offering a new methodology for locating the crack tip throughout a test, using image correlation.
- An initial modeling phase using CimLib, developed at CEMEF, to create a compliant mesh of a Representative Reference Volume, providing a detailed representation of the material’s mesostructure. The first simulations are scheduled for the end of October.
Mekki is a third-year doctoral student, supervised by Jean-Luc Bouvard and Daniel Pino, as part of a CIFRE project with Safran.
Congratulations to Mekki Gaddacha Guizani for his participation, and thank you to SAMPE Europe for this wonderful opportunity for exchange and visibility.
About the SAMPE Europe Award
Created in 1986, the SAMPE Europe Students Seminar encourages young talent in materials science and engineering. Each year, pre-selected students present their work to a jury of international experts. Supported by the SAMPE professional network, this seminar promotes exchanges between young researchers and industry professionals, and helps train the next generation of experts in advanced materials.
