Aurèle Goetz, winner of the Pierre Laffitte 2023 prize

A fine reward for Aurèle Goetz thesis work!
Ten finalists in their 2nd year of thesis studies came together for the final of the Pierre Laffitte Prize on October 13th. The day was devoted to an oral presentation of their research work, with a clear objective: to demonstrate the scientific value of their thesis, coupled with the scope for innovation that it represents for both industry and society in general. A jury made up of researchers and industry representatives from outside the fields of research presented, listened to them and questioned them.
This is not an easy exercise, as it goes beyond the usual format of presentations, and the questions can be confusing. The 7th edition of the competition showed a high standard and a great deal of maturity among the finalists.
Aurèle Goetz was awarded the Pierre Laffitte Medal and the joint 1st prize for his masterly presentation on innovative treatment strategies for ruptured aneurysms. This is the subject of the doctoral research he is carrying out with his alter ego, Pablo Jeken Rico (on the right on the picture), from the same year, as part of the ERC project led by Elie Hachem, CFL team. The work is very promising and a source of hope for the treatment of aneurysms. We’re very proud! Well done! This project is far from over, with Aurèle and Pablo entering the 3rd year of their thesis.

Among the finalists was Vincent Meslier, a PhD student from the CSM and MPI teams. Vincent presented his work on improving the reliability of photovoltaic modules using coupled experimental and numerical approaches with great ease and efficiency. Well done to him too.
